Day 366 (2 APR, YEAR 2): Prize Car Delivery

Prize car BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 has been delivered.
[blank]

This car was awarded for winning the Gran Turismo All Stars event. It's a nice ride, but isn't one that'll be used for this gamesave.

After winning the first of my Extreme Event championships, here's what my Game Status screen looked like after this car was delivered:

I kept the same settings I used for the CdlSI race, and qualified P1 with a 6'08.843, 16.099" quicker than P2. After the session, I equipped the R2 Tires and set the Ballast to 15.

This was one of the sloppiest races I've run at this course so far. The MPZ is the quickest vehicle I've raced there to this point (for this gamesave), and I had a tough time handling it. I hope things go better when I have to run there in the R8...

Everything's fine as I lead through the first two sectors, but heading into the left hander before Adenaur-Forst, I get my right side into the grass as I begin braking. This sends me into the left side wall, and despite lawnmowing A-F, the R92 gets by just after crossing T3. I catch up to the rear bumper of it as we go through Metsgesfeld, but I completely mess up my wallride through Kallenhard.

I bust a 360, slowing down below 40mph, but manage to close the gap to 1.564" at T4. Finally, after wallriding Breidscheid, I move into P1 again, but that doesn't last very long. On the exit of Ex-Muhle, my left side is in the grass and it steps out to send me zigzagging across the track. I wallride Bergwerk to catch up, but my exit is poor, and I'm sent zigzagging again.

I'm down 2.815" at T5, 2.789" at T6, and after wallriding Karussel, I finally get the R92 back into view. I'm down 1.302" at T7, 1.998" at T8, and finally cut the lead to less than a second at T9, down 0.897".

I'm into the grass (unintentionally) just after T9, and I'm right on the tail of the R92. I take the inside as we head into Schwalbenschwanz, and we both go into the wall. I manage to recover better than it, as it goes from wall to wall along the right side. It gets caught against the wall, and backs off by quite a bit.

Just as I think I've got a comfortable lead, I go wide through Galgenkopf, and the R92 is only behind by 0.314" at T10. I block it well enough, but it's still within 0.117" at T11. It passes me while braking for Hohenrain, but I use the grass cut to stay in front. However, my exit angle is poor and I bash into the wall as we head for the last corner. The R92 tries a pass on the inside, but I shut the door, and it bangs into the wall instead.

I'm up 0.751" at the start of the final lap, and I use the grasscut out of Hatzenbach to try to gain some breathing room. I'm up 2.286" at T1, but the R92 closes in to 1.360" at T2. I manage to lawnmow Adenaur-Forst with much better results this time, widening the gap back to 3.052" at T3.

From there, I drive much less like an idiot, maintaining a lead of around 3.5 seconds. I'm wide out of Brunnchen, and the R92 closes the gap by a good chunk. I get a little wild just past T9 again, going into the grass on the left, but I manage to keep it steady enough so I don't spin. I hit the spray as we head down the long straight, and hold the lead around 3 seconds at T11.

But I brake too late for Hohenrain, and I go wide to the left before entering the right hander. Things aren't so bad, and I manage to make it through without any more idiocy...

I ended the practice session with 4071 miles, and ended the race with 4098 miles on the odometer.

After upticking the Auto Gearing to 18, I qualified P1 with a 3'23.577, 7.222" quicker than P2.

I manage to block the R92 as we head for Dunlop, and after dune-buggying through, I'm up 3.093". Using 5 bars of Nitrous, I keep the gap around there, but I get sloppy while coming out of Arnage. The R92 catches up before we hit Porsche, and I manage to block it and hold the lead.

I cut through the Start/Finish chicanes, and I'm up 5.843" at the end of the first lap. I drive comfortably from there, despite the fact that the R92 makes up more than 5 seconds between T1 and T6. It's actually in my rear-view mirror as we approach Ford, but another dune-buggy session, and I take care of it handily.

I ended the practice session with 4024 miles, and ended the race with 4043 miles on the odometer.

I qualified P1 with a 1'06.017, 4.081" quicker than P2.

With a rolling start, I manage to hold the lead for the first lap... Almost...

While approaching the Start/Finish line, I turn in too late and go from wall to wall, starting from the right. I zig zag across the track, and as I'm headed for the right wall (the 2nd time), the R92 T-bones me into a spin.

I recover as the uphill section begins, and as I start to get my bearings back, the GT-ONE bashes into the back of me. This actually helps bring me back to speed, and I hit the bottle until I catch up with it after wallriding the hairpin.

I'm down 0.200" at the end of Lap 2, and heading into Turn 2, I bump into the back of the R92 and it goes into the grass. I retake the lead there, and for the rest of the race, things are relatively calm.

I ended the practice session with 3991 miles, and ended the race with 4008 miles on the odometer.

Before starting this race, I headed over to GT Auto and got an Oil Change. This brought the SettingsHP from 728 back up to 740. After two hot laps, I qualified P1 with a 1'47.505, 4.912" quicker than P2.

I lose out to the R92 off of the launch (surprise!), and I manage to take P1 back by the time we enter the Esses. Everything's going great, until I go into the left side dirt while coming through the Degner kink on Lap 3. The R92 closes the gap to less than 3 seconds at T2, but I manage to maintain that gap for a while...

Until I come through Degner again. I didn't get all 4 into the junk, but I get slowed down enough for the R92 to close the gap even further. As I approach Spoon, my left wheels are in the grass, and as I brake for the turn I nearly lose it and go off into the junk. I recover well enough, but on the exit I put the right side into the dirt. I'm up 1.478" at T2 of Lap 4, and 1.306" to begin the final lap.

Not wishing to waste this run, I finally choose to lawnmow the exit of 2nd Curve and the Degner kink... but I take Casio like a normal person. My parents and the asylum staff would be so proud!

I ended the practice session with 3968 miles, and ended the race with 3987 miles on the odometer.

Using 3 bars of Nitrous, I qualified P1 with a 1'40.093, 8.021" quicker than P2, after setting the Nitrous back to 10, upping the Ballast to 107, changing the gears back to Auto 17, and raising the Ride Height to 55.

I fall back to P2 to the R92 off of the launch, but it's nothing a few good wallrides won't cure. I manage to pass it while coming through the first tunnel, and from there it's just a matter of staying out of the junk...

Which gets harder to do, as my right side tires go orange by the start of the final lap. I use some spray to keep the gap from shrinking too badly, and I maintain a healthy lead on the R92 for the rest of the race.

I ended the practice session with 3938 miles, and ended the race with 3957 miles on the odometer. The MPZ finished with 728 SettingsHP.

I qualified P1 with a 1'39.034, 0.123" slower than P1, after upping the Nitrous to 40 and lowering the Ride Height to 45. I contemplated running another lap to gain pole, but I figured this was good enough. The SettingsHP dropped to 740 after this session.

Running on R2s allowed for much lower Ballast, and it helps me get off the line a bit easier. Regardless, I fall back to P6 after the launch, and I draft the Toyota 7 to get back to the lead pack. The GT-ONE seems to have the highest top speed of the bunch, and shortly after we begin the 2nd lap, the BMW and R390 drop off.

I push-draft the GT-ONE for the rest of the way, and I back off as we head through the final turn on the final lap. This gives me room to make my move, and I hit the juice and pass it along the right for a narrow victory.

I ended the practice session with 3911 miles, and ended the race with 3932 miles on the odometer. The MPZ finished with 740 SettingsHP.

I qualified P1 with a 1'11.080, 5.494" quicker than P2.

The R3 Tires simply don't last long enough for the full race distance, so I slapped on the R2s, lowered the Ballast to 15, and started the race. This race was won easily, as many of the opponents take horrible lines, especially through Turns C to E, and Turns H and J... ESPECIALLY the Toyota 7. I don't know why, but this thing seems to go offroad more in one race than I have for the series (not really).

Anyway, I manage to cross the line well ahead of the P2 GT-ONE, and the toughest part of this race was probably having to watch the replay multiple times to get the finishing gap of the others...

I ended the practice session with 3881 miles, and ended the race with 3898 miles on the odometer.

Off of the launch, the BMW moves into first, and I bash into the back of it as we enter Turn 1. It goes into the junk, leaving the R92 and I alone to battle for P1. I'm up by 0.205" at T3, and I let the R92 pass as we head down the front straight.

This puts it in my sights as we enter Turn 1, and I punt it into the junk as I did for the BMW. They fall back, out of contention, and it's an easy drive to the checkered flag from there.

Day 356 (23 MAR, YEAR 2): Extreme Events / Gran Turismo All Stars / Race 1

I gave the MPZ an Oil Change, then headed over to the Tune Shop for some things. I got some R2 Tires, and a Rigidity Refresh, as a lot of wobble developed after 3800 miles. The Oil Change brought the SettingsHP to 741, which still allows for R3 tires on the front. The R3s don't last long enough for the races at Autumn Ring and Nurburgring, and running on R2s at the Test Course allows for using much less ballast. I loaded up the 9th lineup, and took them on.

I qualified P1 with a 1'01.114, 2.731" quicker than P2. After the practice session, I raised the Ride Height 10mm, as it was quite bumpy in a few sections.

Off of the launch, I cut down on the R92 to block it, but my correction was too sharp and I nearly get into the right side wall. It manages to take P1 into the first corner, but I take the lead back as we enter the tunnel.

Everything's peachy, as I'm able to build a comfortable lead. I give a lot of the gap back on Lap 5 when I bump the left side railing coming out of Turn A, and on Lap 6, I'm too wide coming out of Turn E. I get into the left side grass, and go from wall to wall as I bang off of each of them. I get sideways as I try to recover, and the R92 T-bones me. This sends me forward, and nearly puts the R92 at a dead stop.

I'm ahead by 0.164" at the start of the final lap, and heading into the first corner, the R92 passes along the inside. I manage to retake the lead as I did on the first lap, and manage to hold the lead without much trouble.

I ended the practice session with just under 3817 miles, and ended the race with 3834 miles on the odometer.

This car was awarded for winning the Gran Turismo World Championship. It's a great ride, very responsive with great handling, but it won't be driven for this gamesave.

Now that I've completed all of the Beginner and Professional events, the Extreme Events are now available for entry. I'll continue with the MPZ, racing in the GT All Stars.

Here's what my Game Status screen looked like after this car was delivered:

I qualified P1 with a 3'34.086, 3.531" quicker than P2.

Of course, I dune-buggied the chicanes at Dunlop and Ford, as the others would gain anywhere from 3-4 seconds between T1 and T4, with another 2-3 seconds between T4 and Ford. Regardless, I manage to keep the rest of the race incident free, and I cross the line with a chicane cut's worth of a lead.

I ended the practice session with just under 3777 miles, and ended the race with 3811.7 miles on the odometer. The MPZ finished with 695 SettingsHP.

I qualified P1 with a 1'46.958, 4.140" quicker than P2.

I crash-turn the first two tunnels to keep a healthy gap to the Toyota 7, and knowing that it would pit after its 10th lap, I chose to come in after Lap 7. I switch to R3s, and exit the pits in P4. The AMG and R390 pit on the next lap, and after the Toyota 7 comes in, I take the lead as I begin the final lap. From there, it's an easy drive to the line.

I ended the practice session with 3725 miles, and ended the race with just under 3760 miles on the odometer. The MPZ finished with 698 SettingsHP.

After a sloppy out lap, I qualified P1 with a 1'56.289, 0.966" quicker than P2.

I used the grass cut out of 2nd Curve and through Casio for much of the race, but seeing how the entire field pits, it's not really necessary. In any case, I easily run through the course with not much to worry about.

I qualified P1 with a 1'21.284, 2.137" quicker than P2.

The race is going well enough for the first few laps, but on Lap 6 I miss my braking point into Place Vendome, and the AMG slips by for the lead. As we're heading into Concorde, the Toyota 7 comes from behind and nearly passes both of us, but I manage to get into its path and this pushes me ahead a little bit. I crash-turn Turns A and B, but coming into Turn F, I'm too hot and I slam into the green barrier.

I recover just in time to block the AMG, and manage to hold the lead until it and the Toyota 7 make their pitstops at the ends of Laps 9 and 12, respectively. I go in at the end of Lap 13, switch to R3 Tires, and I'm up 5.384" at T1 of Lap 14. From there, I gain about 3 seconds per lap with the stickier tires, and cruise to a comfortable victory, lapping the Camaro towards the end of Lap 17.

I ended the practice session with 3646 miles, and ended the race with 3679 miles on the odometer. The MPZ finished with 701 SettingsHP.

I put on another wallriding clinic, but I'm still never able to extend the lead much past 4 seconds to the Toyota 7. In fact, on Lap 8, I spin at the hairpin, and the AMG moves ahead into P1. I manage to retake the lead at Turn 4, and I don't get a comfortable lead until 2 laps later. The AMG pits at the end of that lap, and from there things are much easier.

On the launch, I lose out to the R390 and AMG, and I don't move into P1 until we exit Turn 6. I make plenty of introductions with the walls (especially on Lap 2), but nothing that I use to my advantage. I hold off from using the bottle until Lap 8, but even without that, this race was won quite easily.

I usually have trouble with this track/direction, and it's not until Practice Lap 6 that I manage to qualify P1 while using 3 bars of Nitrous. After 11 practice laps, I qualified with a 0'51.430.

I chose to wallride Turns A and F, but stayed off of the bottle until Lap 16 or so. I would be able to stretch the lead by about a second per lap without using Nitrous, and towards the end I nearly put the R390 down a lap as it pulls into the pits. Unfortunately, I'm short by about 3 seconds of doing so, and I finish with 2 bars of Nitrous.

On Lap 13, with 3540 miles on the the odometer, the Oil Light goes on. After the race, the MPZ has 706 SettingsHP.

I ended the practice session with just under 3519 miles, and ended the race with 3552 miles on the odometer.

I qualified with a 1'18.327, 1.122" quicker than P2.

I set the Nitrous back to 10 after qualifying with it at 30. I usually crash-turn Turns 3, 4, and 7, but hold off for the first lap... until...

Coming down Kowloon and into Turn 7, the Toyota 7 bumps me from behind, sending me into the wall. I manage to catch up to it at Turn 11, and dive on the inside of it, returning the favor and sending it into the left side wall. I take the lead from there, and in order to stay in the lead without that booger bumping into me again, I decided to use the walls to keep the gap healthy.

I lap the Camaro on Lap 12, but after pitting on Lap 13, it passes while I'm in the pits. I manage to catch up to it, and pass it for good at Turn 9 of Lap 14. With R3s, I stop abusing the wallrides and drive normally (but not necessarily cleanly) from there.

I ended the practice session with 3464 miles, and ended the race with 3498 miles on the odometer.

After switching to R3 Tires and upping the Nitrous to 70, I qualified with a 0'30.139, 2.056" quicker than P2.

I switched the tires back to R1s, took off the ASM, and set the Nitrous to 30. It took about 20 attempts to get this race right, as the Toyota 7 would often manage to get by for the lead and stay there. It's the toughest one to beat here, as it doesn't pit at all during its run.

Fortunately, on Lap 4 I manage to help it into the wall, and it slows down from the 190s to 27, burning its wheels out in 5th. As it recovers, the Vertigo comes from behind it and smacks it into the wall again. It gets spun, and as it rights itself, the Camaro comes up and bashes it into the inside wall, pointing it in the wrong direction again. From that point on, it doesn't have a chance, although it slowly makes its way back to the lead lap.

After sending the Toyota 7 into the wall, I'm in P1. But after crossing the line to start Lap 5, the R390 comes up from behind and tries a pass. I block it, for a moment, and I end up going into the inside wall. The R390 and AMG make it past me, and I slowly start to lose ground to both of them.

As I'm about to begin my 9th lap, the Toyota 7 gets caught along the wall on the exit of the short corner, and I pass it up again. As I begin Lap 11, the AMG gets caught along the wall of the long corner, and I pass it to move into P2. At the start of Lap 12, I'm down just under 10 seconds to the R390, but the AMG retakes P2 as I crash-turn the long corner.

The Toyota 7 comes up from behind just before the start of Lap 15, and as we come through the long corner the AMG moves into the pits. I'm down almost 15 seconds to the R390 at that point, but at the end of its 19th lap, it pits and I move past it to take the lead. From there, it's more crash-turning, and I wiggle my way to a comfortable, albeit shaky victory... This chassis defenitely needs a refresh when this event is over.

I ended the practice session with just under 3427 miles, and ended the race with just under 3461 miles on the odometer.

I qualified with a 1'28.760, 3.487" quicker than P2. I used all of the wallrides, but stayed off of the bottle... I'm such a saint.

Anyway, I launch horribly off the line and quickly fall back to P5. I manage to retake the lead by wallriding the first corner, and for the rest of the race, things go swell. Most of my laps are in the 1'26 to 1'27 range, and I'm gaining about 2-3 seconds per lap... This, of course, includes wallriding Turns 1, 4, 5, 9, and 10. The AMG runs in P2 until it pits on the 9th lap, and the Toyota 7 and R390 pass it.

Towards the end of Lap 8, I start thinking that I can catch the Camaro to put it a lap down. Unfortunately, I'm too late in using the Nitrous, and it manages to begin its final lap a couple of seconds before I end the race with 3 bars of Nitrous.

I move into P2 just after crossing T1, 4.090" down to the SST. I take the lead at Turn L around the outside of it, and from there it's a comfortable path to the line. I move into P2 easily by the time we hit T1, down 2.665" to the SST. I use half of the bottle to catch up to it at Corkscrew, and when I get there, I bash the SST into the junk. My momentum carries me into the dirt as well, but I'm able to recover well enough with a good angle and take the lead from there.

I cruise to the line without much problem, and finish the race with 4 bars of Nitrous left. I try to cross the line backwards, but I don't swing the back end out enough.

I ended the race with 10.6 miles on the odometer.

I move into P1 coming out of the first corner, and start to pull away. However, coming through Turn 4, I go too wide and the Tacoma and SST catch up. I block well enough to hold the lead for the next few checkpoints, but the SST still catches up along the front straight.

I block it again, and before we head into the first corner, it backs off. I maintain a 1-2 second gap for the next few checkpoints, and the SST catches up again as we head down the front straight. It makes its move on my left, and while I miss the block, I manage to push it into the grass and scrub it into the wall.

I ended the race with 5.7 miles on the odometer.

Day 340 (7 MAR, YEAR 2): NEW Car Purchase

Dodge RAM 1500 LARAMIE Hemi '04 purchased.
Paint Color: Black

I wanted to defer the use of this vehicle for as long as possible, and I feel that the time has come. I want to complete all Championships before Week 75 rolls around, as there will be a lot of used car buying done from that point forward.

So in order to get the championships out of the way, I need to open up the Extreme Events. This means I need to wrap up the Beginner and Professional events, and I can't run in the GTWC until everything else in those event halls are done. The last one remaining is the Sports Truck Race, and for this, I'll need the RAM.

The RAM is one of 2 cars that I won't be using for an OMR. None of the trucks eligible for the Sports Truck Race are OMR-eligible, and the RAM is the best of them for scoring A-spec points. It can win many races, for 200 points, but I'll be restricting its use to the Special Conditions events and a few others...

Prize car Toyota Motor Triathalon Race Car '04 has been delivered.

This car was awarded for winning the 4WD Challenge. It won't be used for this gamesave... I don't even know if it's eligible for races...

Anyway, that leaves the Sport Truck Races as the last of the Beginner & Professional events. I'll be doing that next, then I'll jump in the MOTUL PITWORK Z for the GTWC to open up the Extreme Events.

I nearly overtake the Nissan after the launch, but I fall back considerably thereafter. I'm still in P6 after exiting the first corner, so I cut through Turn 3 to catch up. I move into P3 by doing so, and I overtake the Golf coming through Turn 4. I'm down 1.845" at T1, but the Golf takes P2 again as we head for the chicane.

The Clix moves up on my right as we approach it, and this sets me too far to the left to cut through cleanly. I bash into the back of the Golf, and while I manage to move into P1, my speed is way down, and the RS 6 eventually catches up as we head for the last corner.

I momentarily block it as we head down the straight, but it sends me a little wide and passes on my inside. I'm down 1.338" at the end of Lap 1, and the Golf comes from behind. I block it successfully, but the Clix zooms past on the right to put me into P3. I bash into the back of it, but my car is too light to knock it into the junk. Instead, I get on the gas too early and send myself wide into the dirt!

I creep back onto the track, and cut through Turn 3 again to move back into P2. I'm down 1.269" at T2, but the RS 6 breaks away. Meanwhile, the Clix comes up again, and I lean on it into the grass on the left side. With no one in my way this time, I cut straight through the chicane and leave the others behind.

I ended the race with 23.9 miles on the odometer.

I move into P2 through the first couple of turns, and at T1 I'm down 1.186" to the S4. I bash past it on the inside of Turn F, but it managest to muscle its way back in front as we approach Turn G. As we head up the hill, the A3 comes up fast from behind, and I block it to get a boost. I retake the lead at the top of the hill, and I'm up 0.442" at T2.

As we head for the line to begin Lap 2, the lead pack is 4 deep, and the S4 muscles through again. While trying to block it, I get pushed to my left, and this allows the A3 and the CALDINA to move past me. To make matters worse, the TT comes up fast as we enter Turn A, but it backs off just as we head into the turn. I'm on the S4's tail again as we exit Turn B, and I scrub it into the left wall just as we approach the bridge. I'm up 0.260" at T1, but the A3 moves past me on the exit of Turn D.

I retake the lead under braking into Turn E, and I'm forced to block as we head up the hill. I push the gap to 1.445" at T2, and fortunately, the opponents have a hard time keeping things competitive from there.

I ended the race with 18.2 miles on the odometer.

I move into P5 between the first two right handers, then overtake the Range Stormer and Clix just as I enter the Esses. I move past the CALDINA just before the final left of the Esses, but I give P2 back to it as I go too wide through the final turn.

I put two blocks on the Clix as I begin Lap 2, down 3.875" to the Lancer. This helps me get up to speed, and I elect to cut through the grass to catch up. It works out well, as I'm on the Lancer's tail heading into the Esses. I bang past it near Gyaku, and take the lead for good. I cut hard on the inside of the first turn, banging into the Audi, and move into P3 by the time we exit. As we head into Turn 5, I try to move back to the inside on the Range Stormer, but I'm too close and bang into it's bumper, slowing me down considerably. I'm close to the Beetle as we enter the tunnel, down 1.137" at T2, and I finally pull up to its side as we enter Turn 9.

I lean on the Beetle through Turn 10, but it still pulls away as we head for the line. I'm down 0.675" at the end of the first lap, and as we head through the first corner, the Audi and RS200 catch up. As we approach T1, I have to put a block on the Audi, and I'm down 0.963" to the Beetle.

I pass it on the outside of Turn 6, which puts me into the left side wall heading into Turn 7. I try to use the Beetle to help make the turn, but it brakes and I end up very deep through the turn. I'm neck and neck with it as we enter the tunnel, down 0.230" at T2, and I finally take the lead as we brake for Turn 9.

Heading down the front straight, I'm able to block to protect the lead, and as I cross the line the RS200 comes up fast on the left. Fortunately, there's no more track left, and I eek out a narrow win.

The only other 4WD vehicle in my fleet with a low A-spec point index is the Suzuki ALTO LAPIN Turbo, which I'll be using for the Suzuki K OMRs.

Fortunately, the SALT can sweep the 4WD Challenge for 200 pointers. Unfortunately, I have to spend $27500 in mods to get it to do so. I'm still OK in terms of having the money available to buy all of the Used Cars I want, and I feel it's worth it to keep the use of the RAM to a minimum...

Ahhhh.. what a nice reward for winning this race. It has the #2 Yellow/Silver livery, and is a mean machine! I'll be using this car for the Formula GT races, and for a couple of other Extreme Event races. It is also likely to be my entry for the Super Speedway 150, but I haven't completed testing the PITWORK Z there yet.

This car is only one of two that I'll be using that WON'T be used in an OMR. The other, the Dodge Ram, will be used for the Sport Truck Race event, and none of the other entries allowed for that event are eligible for any OMRs.

Day 331 (26 FEB, YEAR 2): Endurance Events / Circuit de la Sarthe 24h I

I got into the MOTUL PITWORK Z, and decided to run in the CdlSI enduro. After doing some testing in the CdlSII enduro, I felt it best to wear my car down by running the same races in the order that I did them for my test gamesave. This meant doing CdlSI, then the GTWC, then CdlSII (eventually).

On my test gamesave, I went up against the first lineup with a Turbo 4 upgrade and was only awarded 80 A-spec points for it. I completed 417 laps, with a best of 3'17.340 when starting with 926 SettingsHP.

Cutting through the chicanes at Dunlop and Ford, I was able to easily handle lineup #1, which included the R92CP... even after spinning out here and there. So in the hopes of scoring more points, I tested the PITWORK Z again, but this time with a Turbo 3 kit, and found that I could beat Lineup #3 when running laps around 3'29 to 3'30.

With R1 Tires, the Turbo 3 kit, an Oil Change, 138 Ballast, and the downforce maxed out, I found a 200 point offer against this lineup. After a successful test against this field, whose toughest competitor was the R89C, I went for it.

I bought R1 Tires, the Stage 3 Turbo kit, a bottle of Nitrous, and got an Oil Change.

I didn't keep a tally of each time I would lap the competitors. I was hoping to hit the 24 hour mark just after starting the final lap, but in the hopes of conserving fuel, I ran my last stint quite slowly relative to the other ones. This would've allowed the competitors to complete their final laps, but as it was, only the Bentley completed its final lap by the time the race ended. The R89C, who was running in P2, was behind by about 1'15 on the lead lap at the last split, so I estimate that it would've finished about 1'10 behind. The lap counts for the BMW, Toyota, Bentley, and R390 are estimates based on reports by others at GTPlanet.net.

There were numerous spinouts, and I'm sure that if I would've run this race "perfectly", I would've been able to lap the R89C at least once. I spun while entering the pits 3 times, and having to watch the AI correct itself in the sand is an agonizing process, losing a heap of time while doing so. My usual lap times were around 3'29 to 3'31, 3'35 for the in-laps, and 4'07 for the out-laps. This, of course, includes cutting through the Dunlop and Ford chicanes for EACH LAP, and cutting through the sand while entering the pit lane.

I would pit after every 8th lap for fuel, as the tires are still yellow at that point. There would usually be around 7 units of fuel remaining, and except for my pitstops after Laps 112 and 384, I would fill the tank completely. Towards the end of the race, while the car is losing power, fuel consumption improves slightly, and a couple of times there were 9 units of fuel remaining... enough to run another lap. I decided to stick to the 8 lap strategy, regardless.

The closest competitor, the R89C, would pit every 7th lap for a good part of the race. Sometimes it would run 8 laps, and towards the end of the race, it did so more regularly. This worried me, since it would usually manage to take a few seconds from the gap as my car started to wear down. I would still be able to run sub-3'30 laps, but they were becoming more difficult to accomplish as the chassis would also behave in an increasingly unstable manner.

I manage to take the lead at the end of the first lap after cutting through the Ford chicanes. The GT-ONE holds up the R89C for a little while, but it takes me some time to find the best angles for the chicane cuts. There were several times early in the race where the wrong angle would lead to a spinout, and it's not until later that I also get the correct gear selection when travelling through the sand. Eventually, I calm down and work my way ahead of the pack.

On Lap 112, I enter the pit lane with too much speed and a bad angle, and when the AI takes over it spins out. The gap at that time is around 40 seconds, and I exit the pits just as the R89C crosses the line. I manage to block it heading into the first turn, but it passes and breaks away as we head down Hunaudiers. I have around 5 bars of Nitrous at that point, and blow it all trying to keep up with it. Unfortunately, I can't, and I find myself down by about 3 seconds at T1 of Lap 113. Fortunately, it pits on Lap 114, and I manage to retake the lead for good from there.

I also spun in the pits on Laps 192 and 232, but my leads at those times were large enough that I didn't have to worry. Other than that, there were plenty of other off-road incidents and spinouts, but the race was completed without much trouble.

I ended the race with 3384.5 miles on the odometer, and 707 SettingsHP (with the Turbo 3). The Oil Light hasn't come on yet...
