Day 252 (9 DEC, YEAR 1): Professional Events / Supercar Festival / Infineon

So, after purchasing this car, I headed over to the Tune Shop and bought the following mods: Sports Chip, Stage 2 NA Tune, Triple-plate Clutch, Racing Flywheel, Carbon Driveshaft, and of course, Nitrous.

The Sports Chip and NA2 were the cheapest way I've found to get over the 493hp that's required for the Supercar Festival. I didn't want to get an oil change, as that would make it more difficult to maximize what I get offered for the OMR. The stock transmission's gearing isn't optimized, but I found it adequate for the races in which it'd be used.

While I usually like to set the driving aids to 0, this car blows out the tires REALLY easily. I set the TCS to 1 to help with standing starts as well as for pulling out of corners, but in hindsight, maybe a level of 2 or 3 would work better for my "mash & gnash" button pressing style... I'm still trying to practice better modulation for braking and acceleration.

For this event, the toughest opponents were the CIEN, the GT, and the S7. Most others could be handled with some well-timed nudges, but facing lineups with the CIEN starting in P1 makes things nearly impossible. Fortunately, the default lineup starts the CIEN in P4, and this is the lineup I went up against for 3 of the 5 races. Lineup #2 also offers 200 points, after adding ballast, and I went up against them for the other 2 races.

Please refer to these track maps when looking up Turn numbers/names ** Special thanks to AMG @ GTPlanet.net for the hard work put in to generate them!!! **

So far, there are only a couple of good "shortcuts" that I've found for this track. The final hairpin can be wallridden, and It's best to do so against the green portion. There is also a lawnmowing opportunity between Turns 8 and 10, but I haven't gotten good at it, and it usually proves to be more detrimental then helpful for me at this point.

Anyway, things start well enough, but as I'm working my way toward the front, I choose to bash into the GT as we brake for the hairpin at Turn 7. In hindsight, I shouldn'tve done so, as helping to keep it in front of the CIEN would make things easier. As it was, the CIEN eventually moves up toward the end of the race, and I have to work harder to stay in front of it.

Also on the first lap, I bash into the back of the S7 as we brake for the final hairpin. I was unsure whether I should've moved to the outside or inside for the wallride, so I did neither. We both go into the green tire wall, and I manage to squeeze by for the lead.

With the S7 leading the pack, I stretch the gap to around 4.5 seconds. Things remain this way until we come out of Turn 7 of Lap 4, when the CIEN finally overtakes it to move into P2. From there, it steadily closes the gap.

By the time we start the Final Lap, the CIEN is less than 2 seconds behind, but fortunately for me, it never really threatens to pass. I finish with a nearly-empty bottle, having blown most of it on that Final Lap.

I ended the race with 15.6 miles on the odometer.
