Day 182 (30 SEP, YEAR 1): European Events / Pan Euro Championship / Race 5

With 238 miles (158 miles after Oil Change), the Clio now has 314hp on the Settings screen (with Oil, RC Muff, RC Chip, NA1). I think I may've been able to win without it, but I wasn't sure how much more power I'd lose after qualifying and during the race. I decided to get another Oil Change, and brought the SettingsHP back to 322.

Please refer to these track maps when looking up Turn numbers/names ** Special thanks to AMG @ GTPlanet.net for the hard work put in to generate them!!! **

I qualified P1 with a 7'48.674, about 8 seconds quicker than P2. I used 3 bars of Nitrous @ 35 as I exited Galgenkopf (the only place I used it), and I still lose more than a second between T10 and T11!!!

I set the Nitrous @ 20, and start the race. Nothing too dramatic happens until around the 6 minute mark. I work the lead up to about 3 seconds as I pass T8, with the Speed Six in P2. But coming into Pflanzgarten III, I turn in way too early/sharply, and I scrape the inside wall. This bounces me back to the outside, and I slam into the left side wall. I cross T9 with the lead, but after slowing down below 70, the Speed Six completely closes the gap and passes me heading into Schwalbenschwanz.

I push it into the left side grass and retake the lead, but the damage is done and the Esprit catches up along the back straight. The Speed Six and the Esprit are both less than a second behind as we cross T11, but I manage to stay in front and lead after the first lap by 0.728" to the Speed Six.

The lead is still under a second as we pass T1, and betwen Kottenborn and Aremburg things get crazy. The Speed Six comes up on my left as we enter Schwedenkreuz, and I fail to block it properly. I manage to send it into the grass on the left, but as I'm doing this, the Lotus comes up fast on the right. I veer to that side to try a block/scrub, and manage to stay in front of it.

But just as I do so, the Speed Six slices back in front of me and, at 90 degrees, slams into the right side Armco. This forces me into a T-bone, and I'm off-roading it heading into Aremburg. Meanwhile, the Esprit slips by both of us on the left, and after making my way back on track, I find myself down 1.353" at T2!!

I elected to take Adenaur-Forst normally (no lawnmowing), and close the gap to 0.471" at T3. I try my best to find a passing opportunity, but it doesn't come until we reach Drei-Fach Rechts. I bump the Esprit as we're turning, which sends it wide to the left, and after a little excursion into the grass, I retake the lead heading into Wehrseifen.

But having a name like RoadHazard, I can't resist the temptation to wallride Bergwerk. Unfortunately, I approach the wall at a bad angle and lose way too much speed trying to do so. My lead is just over 1 second as we cross T5, and I make my way up the hill. With the Esprit in my rear-view, I make a miserable turn at Mutkurve, get into the grass on the right, and the Lotus passes me just as we cross T6. I'm now in P2 by 0.042"!!

I do my best to keep up, and finally pass the Lotus as I wallride Karussel. At this point, I've got 2 bars of Nitrous left, and I do my best to conserve it for the back straight, relying on blocking to stay in front. I elect to cut the grassy knoll at Hohe Acht, but seeing the replay makes me think that this was actually detrimental. I'm not sure, nor do I care (anymore).

And by T8, the Esprit cuts the lead to less than a second. My turn in for the right hander near Schwalbenschwanz puts me in the left side grass, and I have to slow down to the low 50s to keep from going into the junk. I cut back to the inside curb, just as the Lotus is trying to pass, and he push-starts me back to speed.

From there, I manage to stay in front with a hell of a lot of blocking. The gap is only 0.127" at T10, and 0.124" at T11, but I manage to pull through the rest of the track with the lead. If you keep your eyes on the rear-view, you'll see the Lotus go off at Hohenrain, allowing the Speed Six to take P2 with 1 turn to go...

Fun stuff!!!

I ended the practice session with 263 miles, and ended the race with 290.6 miles on the odometer.
